ROME TOWNSHIP — A low-income senior housing complex in the eastern end is on track to open in the spring.
“It is under construction,” Ralph Kline, assistant executive director of the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization, said. “Most of the site work is done. All the foundation is in and they are pouring the slabs. We’ve had some delays but are trying to catch up.”
Right now, Proctor’s Landing, the 56-unit complex across from the Lawrence County Fairgrounds, has a waiting list with about 60 on it.
“Some of those will change,” Kline said. “They may not qualify or want in it. But we are getting calls every day.”
There are income qualifications that must be met to be accepted.
The almost $10 million project developed by PIRHL of Cleveland, got off to a tenuous start when residents at the neighboring development fought to stop the project, saying it would bring down property values and cause excessive traffic around a school zone.
However, their objections did not stop construction.
“Once they get the floors poured, the framing will be set up,” Kline said. “Basically we are out of the mud. That was the main thing. It was one of the rainiest summers.”
Those wanting to apply for the housing can call at the CAO’s Ironton office at 740-532-3534, Ext. 12033 or the Stormes Creek office at 740-534-0375.
