Ironton in Bloom wants to give a shout out to the Ironton Police Department, Big Boy and a neighbor.

On June 28, I was notified that one of our large pots at the entrance of the Big Boy Restaurant was heavily damaged by a hit and run driver. It was placed to prevent a driver from hitting the traffic calming curb.

When hit, the pot was thrown over the curb and landed in the street with the flowers and dirt thrown every which way. At that point, the driver fled the scene.

Captain Pam Wagner was the officer in charge along with the patrolling officer, who, after seeing the mess, called his wife to bring a broom and dust pan. The neighbor across the street volunteered to help and the dirt and the flowers were placed back into the container, even though their shift had ended.

The Big Boy staff carried buckets of water to try and resurrect the flowers. When I stopped by the police department to thank Wagner, she commented that everyone had been so glad to help because they love the flowers.

Thank you. I am so proud to live in a community where folks care about what everyone is doing to make Ironton a wonderful place to live, work and play.

Ironton In Bloom may still have to change out the flowers as this intense summer heat is making a full recovery difficult. We will be so happy to do this for a community that appreciates what each individual and group is doing. Thank you all.
