An ordinance that will provide new dumpsters to the city of Ironton passed Thursday evening at the Ironton City Council meeting.

Ordinance 16-34, authorizing the mayor to purchase new dumpsters for the city of Ironton, was given its third reading and passed unanimously by the present six members of council. The ordinance was given a favorable recommendation by finance committee and will provide six new dumpsters for the city, not exceeding $5,000.

The other ordinance on the agenda, Ordinance 16-35, authorizing the mayor to execute a contract with Champion Energy Service for electric service and declaring an emergency, was tabled after given its third reading. Champion Energy Services has agreed to give the city lower rates of 4.633 cents/kWh over 5.7 cents/kWh. After some discussion, it was determined to be tabled until other companies’ rates could be gathered.

Also at council:

Several citizens of Ironton’s north end addressed council about water issues in their homes due to the storm/sanitary separation project. Ironton Mayor Katrina Keith, wastewater superintendent Dennis Gumbert, and city engineer Michael Williams, of E.L. Robinson, have tried to determine causes of the issues, but said the process of trying to fix them is ongoing due to the magnitude of the project.
