Chillicothe — As reconstruction of the intersection at U.S. 23 and the Ironton-Russell Bridge in Kentucky continues, traffic changes will be imparted Thursday at the viaduct and KY 244 (Bellefonte Street).
As part of the bridge replacement project in Lawrence County, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation are reconstructing the intersection for the bridge’s approach in Kentucky. When completed, the new signalized intersection will provide for turning movements to and from the bridge to U.S. 23, as well as Bellefonte Street at the viaduct.
Currently, Bellefonte Street is reduced to one lane at its junction with the new bridge’s approach in Kentucky, and traffic is being maintained with a signal. On Thursday, crews from Brayman Construction will flip traffic on Bellefonte Street for the next phase of construction.
While they shift traffic to the northbound lane, Bellefonte Street at the viaduct will be subject to short-term periods of closure. The temporary closure may be in place at any time throughout the day, so motorists into and out of downtown Russell are advised to detour by way of KY 2543 (Ferry Street).
