Overall property tax collections up for the year

Although second half property tax collection is slightly less than this time last year, overall collections for the year are up.
Second half brought in $12.347 million for 2016 compared to $12.53 million for last year, according to Lawrence County Treasurer Stephen Burcham.
However total figures for both halves was $32.628 million or approximately $300,000 more than for 2015.
Nine percent goes to county government; 72 to 75 percent to county schools and the rest to townships.
There will also be a public meeting at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the second floor courthouse chamber to organize the newly formed land bank designed to get funding to pay for demolition of abandoned structures and eyesores chaired by Burcham.
