CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Emergency management officials are keeping a close eye on rainfall amounts in flood-stricken West Virginia on Independence Day.
Timothy Rock, a spokesman for West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said the heaviest rain is expected to fall in the state on Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service also says the heaviest rains are expected into Monday night. The weather service says rainfall amounts will average between 2 and 3 inches, with locally heavier amounts possible.
The weather service issued a tornado warning Monday evening for Doddridge, Harrison, Lewis and Gilmer counties until at least 7:45 p.m.
The service posted a flash flood watch through early Tuesday for more than half of the state’s 55 counties, including the Eastern Panhandle, and central and northern West Virginia.
