SOUTH POINT — An author specializing on cryptozoology will make a presentation at the South Point branch of the Briggs-Lawrence County Public Library on Monday.

Doug Waller, who has written two books on the subject, will present “Bigfoot: Fact or Myth,” along with Shawna Park at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

The two, who met while working at the Guernsey County library, will conduct a PowerPoint presentation and take questions from the audience on the subject.

Waller said he has long had an interest in the subject, prodded in part by supposed Bigfoot sightings at Salt Fork State Park near Cambridge.

While not accepted by the mainstream scientific community and considered a pseudo-science, cryptozoology involves the study of animals and creatures whose existence are rumored or considered to be lacking in solid evidence, such as the Loch Ness Monster or chupacabras.

Waller said while he is interested in all aspects of the field, he focuses specifically on Bigfoot, and sightings in southern Ohio in particular.

He said his group, the Southeastern Ohio Society for Bigfoot Investigation, has conducted many investigations, at times making weekly trips to gather information.

He said he has spoken at libraries throughout the region, at one point drawing 150 people to an event in Gallipolis.

Waller said his presentation will give the public a chance to share stories of any unusual sightings they may have encountered.

Waller said a lot of times people are afraid to discuss the matter publicly for fear of ridicule, and, if nothing else, such events allow him to make contact for follow-up talks.
