More than a dozen people answered charges Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court, including a South Point man saddled with multiple theft and burglary charges.

Brian Layne, 30, of 106 Freeman Court, pleaded not guilty to four fifth-degree counts of theft by deception, three third-degree counts of theft of a firearm, three fifth-degree counts of theft, two misdemeanor counts of theft, fourth-degree grand theft and one count each of third- and second-degree burglary.

Bond was not set as Layne is incarcerated in a West Virginia prison.

Judge Charles Cooper set a pretrial for June 29.

Dwayne Gue, 19, of 314 Hillview Lane, South Point, was arraigned on charges of third-degree failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and fifth-degree obstruction of official business, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Cooper continued bond from a lower court and added a $10,000 own-recognizance bond. As a condition of bond, Gue must report for weekly drug testing. A pretrial was set for June 29.

Jon Blatt, 21, of 295 Township Road 1167, Proctorville, was arraigned on a third-degree count of gross sexual imposition, to which he pleaded not guilty. Cooper continued bond from a lower court, placed him on house arrest and ordered that he stay away from the alleged victim. A pretrial was set for June 29.

Richard Ferris, 32, of 1365 County Road 1 Apt. 26, South Point, was arraigned on counts of third-degree possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, to which he pleaded not guilty. Cooper continued bond from a lower court and added a $10,000 OR bond and GPS monitoring. A pretrial was set for June 29.

Stephen Jenkins, 59, of 5207 County Road 19, Kitts Hill, was arraigned on a second-degree count of aggravated vehicular assault, to which he pleaded not guilty. Cooper continued bond from a lower court and added an OR bond. A pretrial was set for June 29.

Garland Sharp, 26, of 714C S. 10th St., Ironton, was arraigned on a count of fifth-degree possession of drugs and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug abuse instruments and resisting arrest, to which he pleaded not guilty. Cooper continued bond from a lower court and added a $10,000 OR bond. Sharp must also report for weekly drug testing.

Lori Ellis, 52, of 28 Private Drive 53 Apt. 10A, Proctorville, pleaded guilty to fifth-degree counts of forgery and theft. Cooper sentenced the woman to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation and STAR.

David Bocook, 46, of 212 Hamilton St., Coal Grove, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of possession of heroin, to which he pleaded not guilty. Judge D. Scott Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR and set a pretrial for June 29.

Evelyn Caplinger, 43, of 113 Depot St., Coal Grove, was arraigned on a bill of information of third-degree tampering with evidence and fifth-degree possession of drugs, to which she pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $25,000 OR and set a pretrial for June 29.

Hosea Chapman Jr., 65, of 69 Township Road 1026 Apt. B, South Point, was arraigned on one fifth- and two fourth-degree counts of complicity to trafficking in cocaine, to which he pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR and GPS monitoring and set a pretrial for June 29.

Timothy Keating, 34, of 121 Zoar Hill Road, Coal Grove, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of misuse of a credit card, to which he pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR and set a pretrial for June 29.

Amy Patrick, 24, of 69 Township Road 1026 B, South Point, was arraigned on one fourth and four fifth-degree counts of trafficking in cocaine, to which she pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR plus GPS and a pretrial was set for June 29.

Miranda Porter, 21, of 412 McGovney St., Ironton, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of possession of heroin and misdemeanor endangering children, to which she pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR and $2,500 cash or surety plus GPS monitoring. A pretrial was set for June 29.

Jeffrey Thompson, 56, of 1634 Doulton Ave., Huntington, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of possession of cocaine, to which he pleaded not guilty. Bowling continued bond from a lower court and added a $25,000 OR bond. A pretrial was set for June 29.

Michael Waggoner, 27, of 207 Nedra Drive, Barboursville, West Virginia, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of possession of heroin and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia, to which he pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $5,000 cash or surety and $10,000 OR. A pretrial was set for June 29.

Deshannon Lee, 27, of 409 Center St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to two fourth-degree counts of trafficking in heroin, fourth-degree complicity to trafficking in heroin, third-degree tampering with evidence and one count each of fourth- and fifth-degree trafficking in drugs. Bowling sentenced the man to 24 months in prison.

Andrew McClain, 28, of 1012 S. Fifth St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to counts of possession of drugs and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Sentencing will be June 15.

Ralph Viars, 30, of 3531 County Road 64, Willow Wood, pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree count of possession of drugs and was sentenced to treatment in lieu of conviction.

Ashley Neville, of 9035 State Route 554, Bidwell, pleaded guilty to third-degree tampering with evidence and misdemeanor possession of drugs and disorderly conduct. Sentencing was set for June 15.

Stewart Sherman, 24, of 44 Private Drive 1285, Chesapeake, admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to three months in prison.
