The weekend E-Waste and Shred Days brought out a record number of cars and poundage of items.

“We did better in Portsmouth,” Dan Palmer, director of the Lawrence-Scioto County Solid Waste District, said.

The Portsmouth event on Friday had 175 vehicles with 73 there for document shredding and the rest to dispose of electronics.

There were 7,940 pounds of documents and 4,500 pounds of electronics in Portsmouth.

On Saturday the event moved to Lawrence where there were 54 cars for shredding with 5,460 pounds of documents and 51 cars for electronics or 800 pounds of items.

“I attributed that to the weather conditions,” Palmer said. “But between the two events it was very good and surpassed last year. You’d be surprised the number of people who came through, wanting us to do it twice a year.”

On June 18 will be the annual Ohio River Sweep with solid waste taking care of the Center Street boat ramp in Ironton and the Symmes Creek boat ramp.

“And people are already calling about the Household Hazardous Waste Day,” Palmer said.

That will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at Dow Chemical in Hanging Rock.
