Rock Hill (0-7, 0-2) at South Point (1-6, 0-2)

Someone will get its first Ohio Valley Conference win.

Rock Hill moved the ball last week on offense against the Coal Grove defense but had two drives stall deep in Hornets’ territory and committed two costly turnovers that gave Coal Grove a short field.

The Redmen must establish their running game against the Pointers to help open up the passing lanes.

Conversely, South Point has been able to move the ball on the ground but needs to complete a few passes to back off the defense to allow the Pointers to utilize the speed of Tevin Mitchell, Kyle Dickess and Trey Campbell.

River Valley (1-6, 0-2) at Coal Grove (6-1, 2-0)

The Hornets have what would seem to be a breather sandwiched between Rock Hill last week and Fairland next week, two big conference games.

But the Raiders have been an offensive threat with running back Patrick Williams who went for more than 100 yards against 6-1 Albany Alexander. Quarterback Jacob Hefner can run or throw and his favorite receiver is Trey Noble.

The key for the Hornets is to play well early and get a big lead. They can not afford an emotional letdown and find themselves in a close game with the Raiders who have big play capabilities.

Green (3-4, 1-1) at Portsmouth Notre Dame

The Bobcats are finally healthy with Steve Blanton back at quarterback. With little depth, Blanton’s return enabled Green to have everyone back at their normal positions last week and they responded with a strong offensive performance at Waterford before losing in double overtime.

Notre Dame is 3-4 but only lost to powerhouse Oak Hill 27-7 two weeks ago. The team that can control the clock and the line of scrimmage should prevail in this game between well-coached teams.
