Two ordinances involving buildings in the central business district are on tonight’s Ironton City Council agenda.
Ordinance 16-20, amending Ordinance 90-22, adopting US. Secretary of Interior’s standards for rehabilitation and guidelines for rehabilitating historic buildings as building rehabilitation standards within the city’s central business district and reestablishment of a of a rehabilitation standards review board to review such building rehabilitation plans, will be given its first reading.
The city of Ironton has adopted a comprehensive downtown revitalization plan as per Resolution 07-50, which was passed May 10, 2007, and establishes a program outlining implementation of the revitalization effort within a defined central business district in Ironton. Implementation of the Building Renovation Standards, assuring the continuity within the Central Business District and the reestablishment of a design review board to review rehabilitation standards to make recommendations and assure compliance with the standards are key components to the revitalization program. The program is also a requirement for participating in the HUD Small Cities Downtown Revitalization Community Development Block Grant program.
Also set to get a first reading is Ordinance 16-21, amending Ordinance 90-79, adopting building guidelines to implement façade improvements and construction standards within Ironton’s Central Business District.
In order to receive Community Development Block Grant funds for revitalization in Ironton’s Central Business District, design standards and review guidelines are required by the Ohio Development Services Agency.
