This Sunday will be the annual Out of Darkness Suicide Prevention walk hosted by Ohio University Southern.

“We have partnered with Ironton High School that is allowing us to use their high school track,” Nicole Mollica, walk chair, said. “This walk is a little bit different from others. It is free but you are encouraged to donate.”

The walk’s goal is to raise $5,000, all of which will go to suicide prevention research.

“We want to reduce the rate by 20 percent by 2025,” Mollica said.

The walk is a 5K or a little over 12 laps.

Registration for the walk starts at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Riffe Center.

“It is to help spread awareness of the rates of suicide, said Mollica, whose mother committed suicide on Jan. 5, 2015.

There will also be a ceremony recognizing the different relationships and Mollica is still looking for persons who has lost a spouse and a child to suicide.

Anyone meeting those criteria can contact Mollica atnm54711@ohio.edu.
