WHEELERSBURG — The Ironton Fighting Tigers’ tennis team opened the season on Wednesday and managed one win in the five matches against the Wheelersburg Pirates.

Ironton’s No. 3 singles player Andrew McCown beat Isaac Mullins of Wheelersburg for the Fighting Tigers’ lone win on the day.

In other singles play, Mitchell Weisgarber fell to Drew Jackson and Jaxson Pleasant lost to in the other singles’ match.

In doubles play, Corey Rawlins and Trevin Dutey fell to the Pirate’ team of Jordan and Allen while Brock Midkiff-Sands and Ali White lost to the tandem of Nelson and Pettuset.

Ironton hosts Lawrence County, Ky., on Thursday and visits Jackson on Friday.
