CIRCLEVILLE — The teams will put up their clubs, but the Chesapeake Panthers’ Nick Duffield has another match to play.

The Panthers’ sophomore golfer qualified individually for the Division II state golf tournament to be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-16, at the Ohio State University Scarlet Course.

The top two teams qualified for the state tournament along with the top two individuals not on a qualifying team. Logan Elm won the tournament with a 322 score and Unioto was second just one shot back at 323 on the Pickaway Country Club golf course.

Logan Elm’s Derek Greenlee shot a 68 to take medalist honors.

Duffield and Southeastern’s Ben Davis were the two individual qualifiers. Davis shot a 74.

The Panthers were third as a team thanks to Duffield’s efforts. Chesapeake had a 324 score as Roger Hoback shot an 80, SethWaggoner 83, and Nathan Copley and Drew Oxley 88 each.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers — one of the favorites coming into the match — suffered an off day but still shot a 329 to finish fourth as a team.

Josh Zornes led Ironton with a 76 while Josh Mullins had an 83, Andy Holtzapfel and Jon Williams 85 each, and Mason Weisgarber carded an 89.
