Balanced Hornets beat Redmen

COAL GROVE — It was a little bit of everyone.
The Coal Grove Hornets had nine different players score with three in double figures en route to a 51-23 rout of the Rock Hill Redmen on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Daniel Rutherford scored 12 points while Cole Gannon and Sam Angelo had 10 each to lead the balanced Hornets (6-11, 3-9).
Brady Knipp had eight points to lead the Redmen (0-18, 0-11).
The Hornets used seven points by Rutherford to jump out in front 12-3 at the end of the first quarter. Knipp’s 3-pointer was the only basket by the Redmen.
Coal Grove got 12 more points in the second quarter to lead 24-12 at the half. Sam Angelo scored five points as he and Dalton Miller hit 3-pointers.
Gannon hit a trey and scored six points in the third quarter to help Coal Grove extend its lead to 36-21.
Rock Hill went stone cold in the fourth quarter with only a basket by Jaret Bacorn while the Hornets had their best quarter with 15 points as six different players scored. Angelo and Alijah Roman led the Hornets with four points each.
On Tuesday, Coal Grove hosts Chesapeake and Rock Hill visits Portsmouth in OVC games.
