Charged with receiving stolen property, failing to report
A Kentucky man who failed to report to pretrial hearings related to a receiving stolen property charge was sentenced in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court Wednesday. Carl Wayne Salyers, 24, of 2822 Needmore Road, Rush, Ky., who was originally charged in 2008 with receiving stolen property, pleaded guilty to both receiving stolen property and failing to report.
Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced Salyers to a total of 34 months in prison — 17 months for each charge.
Salyers apologized to the court for running from the charge.
“I know I shouldn’t have run from this and I’m sorry,” Salyers said. “I admit guilt to it. Today is my daughter’s first birthday and I’d just really like to hold her one time before I go,” he said.
Bowling agreed to set up a courtroom visitation for Salyers and his daughter.
Also in Common Pleas Court Wednesday, an Ironton family who allegedly committed a felonious assault together entered pleas. The family is accused of attacking a man in his home with a rake handle, Bob Anderson, assistant prosecutor, said.
