Former Ironton Steel is getting new look

The view on South Sixth Street has changed with the demolition of the onetime office of the now defunct Ironton Steel.
“It is the old front of that facility,” Jeremy Clay, director of The Point industrial park, said.
The Lawrence Economic Development Corporation purchased the property in 2014 from J&S Land Corporation for $250,000.
The condition of the office, which was once a residential house, made it impractical to restore, Clay said.
“It is in terrible condition,” he said. “And most plants today wouldn’t want an office segregated from the plant.”
There are no immediate plans for the remainder of the 40,000–square-foot factory.
“It is not on schedule,” Clay said.
LEDC is looking for a buyer interested in fixing the property up.
“This will let people see what it can really be,” Clay said. “It has a nice five-acre lot. Without the office you can see what it could be.”
Solid Rock Construction of West Portsmouth were in charge of the demolition.
