Young heads area All-Ohio selections

It’s been quite a postseason for Ironton’s Desmond Young.
The Fighting Tigers’ 6-foot-1, 230-pound senior linebacker was named the Associated Press Division V Southeast District Defensive Player of the Year, then made a visit to the University of Louisville and returned home to be named to the AP All-Ohio first team defense.
The two-time All-Ohio player led 20 area players honored by the AP.
Named to the All-Ohio Special Mention list were Ironton 6-foot-5 senior tight end Lucas Campbell, 6-6, 300-pound junior lineman Tyler Webb, 6-3, 300-pound senior lineman Hayden Robinson and 6-1, 200-pound senior running back Andrew Barker.
Named to the Division V team from Rock Hill were 5-9, 190-pound senior running back Chance Blankenship, 5-10, 205-pound senior Danny Long and 6-2, 205-pound junior receiver Trystan Matney.
South Point 5-11, 205-pound senior linebacker Reed Murnahan also earned Special Mention honors.
Chesapeake Panthers’ 6-5, 220-pound senior linebacker Brad Meadows topped the area Division VI selections with a spot on the second team.
The Panthers had four players named Special Mention: 5-9, 155-pound junior quarterback Casey McComas, 6-foot, 205-pound senior lineman Brendan Meadows, 6-1, 215 senior lineman Jacob Johnson and 6-3, 135-pound senior placekicker Wesley Stephens.
The Coal Grove Hornets had three players on the Special Mention list in Division VI led by 6-2, 210-pound senior linebacker Tanner Dolen. Also on the team were 5-5, 160-pound junior running back Jacob Clark and 5-10, 185-pound junior running back Tanner Henry.
The Symmes Valley Vikings also landed a player on a first team defense with 6-foot, 2195-pound senior Tyler Dement honored in Division VII.
The Vikings had two players named Special Mention as 6-5, 240-pound senior lineman Dakota Watson and 5-11, 205-pound defensive end Cameron Meadows were both named to the AP team.
Young also played fullback on offense and led the team with 805 yards on 151 carries for a 5.3 yards per carry average. He scored 15 touchdowns.
Meadows led Chesapeake with 113 tackles including four tackles for a loss and he had three interceptions.
Dement racked up 137 tackles with 10 stops for a loss and he had four quarterback sacks.
