Shopping with cops priceless

It’s more than just a shopping spree.
It’s a chance for a better Christmas, one that might not be possible without the help of local law enforcement.
Each year dozens of children have their holiday wishes come true thanks to the Shop With a Cop program. Initially organized by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the event includes nearly every law enforcement agency in the county, as well as the adult probation department.
This year’s event will be Dec. 7 at the South Point Wal-Mart but the community’s help is still needed to raise funds. As in year’s past, law enforcement agencies are selling apple butter for $8. All proceeds go to help underprivileged children get warm clothes and toys to go under their Christmas trees.
But perhaps more important than presents, Shop With a Cop represents the need for the youth of the community to have a positive image of law enforcement officers.
These young children who are taken shopping by an officer will carry that memory with them into their adult lives.
Being able to see firsthand the men and women who dedicate their time to protecting the community and striving to make it a better place is a gift that could shape these children’s lives for years to come.
