Christmas is coming early as the Lawrence County Historical Society’s museum hosts a reception today from 1-4 p.m. to show off this year’s holiday decorations.

As is the tradition, community volunteers design each room according to the Victorian style of the Gray Mansion, the museum’s headquarters.

Each Sunday from now until Dec. 20 the museum will offer a holiday concert starting at 1 p.m. followed by refreshments.

On top of that will be the annual holiday tea on Saturday, Nov. 21, starting at 2 p.m.

The tea is a multi-course meal starting with a gourmet soup, followed by scones, finger sandwiches and dessert, all created by museum volunteers. As the food is served there will be a fashion show from the museum’s collection of vintage clothes.

“This year we are featuring clothes from the cemetery walk,” Kay Rader, museum volunteer, said. “There was the cutest girl in it this year portraying Mabel Jenkins and I thought that would be perfect.”

Reservations are $20 a person and can be made by contacting the museum at 740-532-1222 or Rader at 740-534-9477.

“They better get their reservations in,” Rader said.

There will also be a reception following the annual church walk on Saturday, Dec. 5. Downtown churches and the museum have hosted the event for the past 20 years where each church offers a special mini service that tells one part of the Christmas story starting with the prophecy from the book of Isaiah.

The church walk starts at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ironton and ends at Quinn Chapel. The museum reception starts after that.
