The sheriff and EMS will get new vehicles following Lawrence County Commission agreeing to borrow funds through county treasurer’s Neighborhood Investment Program.

Both bonds will be issued for five years at an interest rate of 2.25 percent. The transport van for the sheriff will cost $48,464.44 and $313,215 will be spent for equipment for the EMS.

The commissioners also approved revising the budget for Community Development Block Grants for the following projects: increasing the amount to be spent on demolition from $76,800 to $94,300; and removing the Proctorville fire hydrant project slated at $17,500 because the village cannot supply the match.

The amount scheduled for creating the Chesapeake Community Garden remains at $30,000.

Commissioners approved the water pollution control loan fund for $159,996 to upgrade residential sewer and septic systems throughout the county; and $300,000 in CDBG for floodwall repairs.

In other action the commission:

Requested the county engineer perform a speed limit study for County Road 36;

Signed a contract with AT&T for PRI lines for 36-months at $935 a month;

Received the weekly dog warden’s report for Oct. 3 where one dog was euthanized, 20 were adopted or went to rescue; and nine were redeemed by owner;

Received the weekly dog warden’s report for Oct. 10 where two dogs were euthanized, 25 were adopted or went to rescue, and none were redeemed by owner.
