The Friends of Ironton are opening up the RoNa theater to Dr. Dekay’s House of Screams every weekend in October, adding another haunted attraction to the Ironton Lions Club haunted tunnel in Ironton.
“We thought about doing this last year, but ran out of time to get everything going,” Jane Griffith, of the Friends of Ironton, said. “We said we’re definitely going to have it next year.”
Griffith said Dr. Dekay’s House of Screams has been around for approximately 15 years and sets up haunted attractions all over.
“He came and talked to us and they do everything with 20 to 30 people,” Griffith said. “We’ll be there selling concessions, but won’t actually be doing anything for the haunted house.”
Tickets are $20, but also give admission to the haunted tunnel with a shuttle running from the RoNa to the tunnel every 20 minutes. Griffith said the shuttle will also make stops at the Holiday Inn if need be.
“We’re not trying to take business away from the Lions Club. We all want to work together for the same reason,” Griffith said. “We’ll get together with the Lions Club after each weekend and give them the money for those at the haunted tunnel with our tickets.”
Dr. Dekay’s House of Screams will be open at the RoNa every Friday and Saturday during the month of October from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. On Sunday, Oct. 25 will be a toned down version of the haunted house for children. On Oct. 30 and 31, the Friends of Ironton will also host “Blood and Brews,” a craft beer fest right outside of the theater with vendors also available.
