The man involved in a federal criminal case over an alleged assault at the Lawrence County Jail last year appeared in front of Judge O. Clark Collins in Ironton Municipal Court on Tuesday to answer charges after being arrested last week.

Larry D. Kinstler, 38, of 610 S. 10th St., Ironton, was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing official business, second-degree misdemeanors, as well as a minor misdemeanor of disorderly conduct.

His arrest followed an incident between himself, police officer Adam Koch and adult probation officers Carl Bowen and Lynn Stewart after Koch and the probation officers were met by Kinstler outside of a residence where a woman with an outstanding warrant was believed to be.

Collins set a $10,000 own-recognizance bond and Kinstler’s pretrial for 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8.

Kinstler is the subject of an alleged assault by corrections officers Jeremy S. Hanshaw, Ronald S. Hatfield and Jason D. Mays at the Lawrence County Jail in August of last year. In addition to the criminal assault case, Kinstler filed a civil lawsuit against the jailers.

Prior to that incident, he was arrested by the Ohio State Highway Patrol for disorderly conduct by intoxication, although that case was dismissed due to not being filed on time.

The federal criminal trial against the corrections officers will begin Monday, Sept. 21 in the U.S. District Court of Judge Timothy Black in Cincinnati.
