Dog, cat food, blankets top list of needed items

Business is booming at the dog pound. That is if you define that as taking in unwanted dogs and cats.

That means expenses are mounting as well.

Since the shelter started taking in cats, there have been close to 80 litters that have been dropped off there. That means a need for food for kittens as well as adult cats.

Typically the shelter also spends between $50 to $75 a week for cat litter.

Volunteers there are putting out an SOS for food and litter for the cats as well as donations.

“And we could use any old towels and blankets we could use on the bottom of the cages,” Melissa Nicely, dog poundkeeper, said. “When it gets cold, they cuddle. And any type of cleaning supplies.”

On the dog side more animals being dropped off has caused a serious need for food and collars.

“We keep so many dogs our dog food is running low,” Nicely said. “And we need collars.”
