The county is now looking for a new dog warden following the sudden resignation of longtime warden, Bill Click.
At its regular Thursday meeting the Lawrence County Commission accepted Click’s resignation effective Oct. 25, with no comment.
Click, who had been with the animal shelter for the past 27 years, resigned on Tuesday following a dispute he had with a member of the humane society.
At least one commissioner, Bill Pratt, would like to see deputy warden, Ronnie Hatfield, elevated to Click’s job.
Also at the meeting Lawrence County Treasurer Stephen Burcham reported that total tax collections reached over $30 million.
“That is the first time we have hit $30 million in collections,” Burcham said.
As far as the banks that agreed to receive tax payments, total payments there were $698,000. US Bank at South Point collected the most at $99,152 with US Bank at Proctorville second at $90,413.
However, casino receipts for this quarter are down $12,000 coming in at $174,000. For the year the casino money is down $20,000.
“It seems to have slacked off,” Burcham said. “It is money we depend on since they cut the Local Government Fund. It is not an equal trade.”
In other action the commission:
• Approved a contract between the department of job and family services and Ironton law firm, McCown and Fisher;
• Approved a contract between the department of job and family services and Ironton attorney Craig Allen in the event that there is a conflict for McCown and Fisher;
• Gave the business award to Kroger’s in Proctorville for its service to the community;
• Approved Stantec of Columbus as a consultant for the Lawrence County Airpark for negotiable fees;
• Appointed commissioner Freddie Hayes Jr., Dr. Bill Dingus, Jodi Rowe-Collins, Bob Day and Richard Meyers to the tobacco board;
• Appointed Tim Crank to the ADAMHS board.
