The population of Lawrence County is scheduled to increase by more than 1,000 on Oct. 13. But don’t expect a surge in home sales. The new residents will be making their home in Timber Ridge Lake. The new residents are rainbow trout.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife announced the restocking dates for 25 Ohio waterways and Timber Ridge is scheduled to be restocked on Oct. 13. The trout are from 10 to 13 inches in length.
“This annual stocking provides excellent opportunities for anglers to continue fishing through the fall all across Ohio,” Elmer Heyob, hatcheries program administrator with the Division of Wildlife, said in a press release.
Roger Boggs, forestry technician for the Wayne National Forrest, said the Timber Ridge Lake brings a lot of fisherman to the area.
“The trout bring them out of the woodworks,” Boggs said. He said around October they begin getting calls about when the restocking will be.
Don Swatzel, fisheries biologist for the Ohio Division of Wildlife, said the spring and fall months often are the better seasons for fishing, because of the water temperature.
Swatzel said one of the main reasons rainbow trout is so popular is because it is especially good to eat.
There is no fee for fishing at Timber Ridge, but you must have a valid Ohio fishing license. Swatzel said licenses can be obtained from a variety of places, including Wal-Mart, tackle shops and on the Internet. The cost is $19 for a resident’s fishing license, good from March 1 through February 28, and $11 for a one-day fishing license.
Swatzel said the money brought in from the license fees is put back into the resources, to restock fish and to help projects like access improvement.
