RACELAND — Talks about getting a jump on your career.
Sarah Linn hasn’t even finished college and she’ll be jumping into the opportunity she has been working toward after begin named the new Raceland Lady Rams volleyball coach.
“I got interested in the assistant coach job opening when I heard it was available,” said Linn. “This turned out great for me because I will be student teaching at Raceland in the fall.
“I am very excited to continue to be around volleyball even after playing in college and use where I know to help these girls grow as players.”
Linn is bypassing her senior season at KCU as she begins doing her student teaching at Raceland.
Linn graduated from Ironton in 2012 where she played volleyball for four years. She signed with Kentucky Christian University where she was an outside hitter the past three years.
During this past spring, Linn worked with the Raceland Middle School team as an assistant. She worked with the high school team when open gym sessions began in May.
Linn takes over a Raceland team that has won the 16th Region championship the past two years to reach the state tournament and racked up 69 wins over that span.
“I plan on continuing to work hard and make it fun for the girls and bild a culture to where everyone plays for each other and for the name on the front of the jersey,” said Linn.
“I also want to make sure this program stays as strong as it has been these past few years.”
Former coach Jason Clark resigned as the Lady Rams’ basketball coach and volleyball coach after nine season in late June to devote more time with his family.
During her time at KCU, the Lady Knights won the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II national championship in 2014 under veteran coach Bruce Dixon.
KCU made three regional appearances, won two regional titles and earned three national tournament berths during Linn’s three seasons with the Lady Knights.
Sarah is the daughter of Mary and Jeff Linn of Ironton.
