COLUMBUS (AP) — A group hoping to put a broad marijuana legalization issue on the Ohio ballot next year has cleared another hurdle.
The Ohio Ballot Board certified the measure as a single ballot issue Thursday. Ohioans to End Prohibition still must collect over 305,000 valid signatures to get its “Cannabis Control Amendment” before voters.
The group wants to allow adults 21 and over to legally grow up to six mature marijuana plants in a secured area at home and to have up to 100 grams, about 3.5 ounces. Medicinal marijuana users could have up to 200 grams, or 7 ounces, and caregivers could grow a dozen plants.
Another group is pushing a competing marijuana legalization proposal for the ballot this fall. Responsible Ohio has said it has collected more than enough signatures.
