The rhythm and blues band of Larry Whitt and Blue-Eyed Soul kicks off this season of the Ironton aLive summer outdoor concerts.

As always the concerts will be at the Ironton Farmers Market pavilion on South Second Street on Tuesdays. This year, however, the starting time has been moved to 6:30 p.m. so not to conflict with the dinner hour, Sam Heighton, acting Ironton aLive director, said.

Also this year a few of the farmers market vendors will sell their wares during the concerts.

“This year we will see how it works to have some farmers market people there,” Heighton said. “They’ll bring produce, baked goods, canned goods. It is an experiment to see how it works.”

The concerts are a partnership between Ironton aLive and Studimo, which sets up the sound equipment and books the bands.

This is the third year for the series that will run through Aug. 13.

Next week’s concert will be WTCR Country Showdown featuring several country music bands.

“The goal is to get people acquainted with the downtown and the revitalization we have done in that area,” Heighton said. “We are trying to get the Tri-State people in and see our town.”
