Trees added to city landscape

More trees have been planted in downtown Ironton following Ironton In Bloom’s annual Arbor Day celebration.
On Thursday two little leaf lindens were planted at Memorial Hall and a third planted on Railroad Street in honor of Doug and Ruth Cade, whose nursery used to provide the flowers and maintenance to IIB at cost. The Cades closed down their business in October and IIB has had to find other suppliers.
Trees were purchased by Sun Coke, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and Ironton In Bloom. Each costs $129 and were purchased from G&G Nursery, Lesage, West Virginia.
“This is a partnership with businesses and the Tri-State community,” Carol Allen of IIB said at a ceremony at Memorial Hall.
This was the fourth year for the event where IIB has planted 17 trees in three separate parks and trees along Center Street.
A goal is to turn Memorial Hall into a pocket park along a designated walking trail in downtown. The parks are viewed as resting areas for walkers.
