Julia Sherman
Julia Eloise Sherman, 87, of South Point, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. The Ironton native was born Jan. 26. 1928, a daughter of the late Talmadge and Murly Smith Gibson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Wilson Sherman.
Mrs. Sherman attended South Point High School, was a homemaker and attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was very involved in her church, the Red Hat Club, loved the outdoors, crafts and sewing. Julia was a devoted Christian loving mother, wife and a great influence and example to all she knew. She is rejoicing in Heaven but will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by three sons, George Stephen Sherman of South Point, Michael L. (Brenda Sue) Sherman of Ashland, and Merle Allen (Carla Jean) Sherman of Huntington, West Virginia; two sisters, Mary Littman of South Point and Edith Powell of Flatwoods, Kentucky; a brother, Burley Gibson of South Point; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Tom Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens and visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Mark Laber
Mark Stanley Laber, 49, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Dec. 9, 1965, at the Lawrence County General Hospital to Maude Elizabeth Burton Laber and the late Joseph Laber.
Mr. Laber attended Rock Hill High School. He was a former fork lift operator for Big Sandy Superstore and also worked for the Lawrence County Animal Shelter. He attended the Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dorothy and Fred Burton; an uncle, George Laber; two brothers-in-law, Jeff Walls and Glen Morrow; and his father-in-law, Jim Workman.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Joey Laber; two daughters, Karyn Laber and Elizabeth Laber; three brothers, Mike Laber, David Laber, and Samuel Laber; three sisters, Patty Laber, Kim Walls, and Cindy Vanbibber; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery and visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Phillips Funeral Home, P.O. Kathleena Burk
Kathleena Star Burk, 26, of Lorain, formerly of Waterloo, was found on April 11, 2014, in Lorain County after being missing for over a year. Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton is in charge of arrangements.
