Noble hurls no-hitter in Chesy win

CHESAPEAKE — When the other team doesn’t get any hits, you don’t lose too many.
Melanie Noble threw a five-inning no-hitter as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers blanked the St. Joseph Female Flyers 17-0 on Thursday.
“Melanie threw well. The key was throwing strikes. She didn’t walk a batter,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
Chesapeake (4-2) had 10 hits with Brooke Webb going 3-for-4 with a double, Melanie Noble 2-2 and a double, Natalee Hall 2-3 with a double, Sydnee Hall 2-3 and Alexis Kerns 1-1.
St. Joseph pitchers combined to walk 12 batters and hit three more.
The Lady Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Webb singled, Noble was hit by a pitch, two runs scored on an error and Sydnee Hall had an RBI single.
The lead went to 6-0 in the second.
Webb singled, Laura Rice and Kelsey Huff walked, Noble had a two-run single and Lindsey Davidson hit a sacrifice fly.
Chesapeake scored eight runs in the third.
McKenna Wells walked, Natalee Hall doubled, Webb walked to load the bases and Rice, Huff and Noble all walked to force in runs.
Rice scored on an infield fly rule, Robin Frye was hit by a pitch, Wells walked, Natalee Hall singled and Webb doubled.
The final three runs scored in the fourth.
Mackenzie Jones was hit by a pitch, Noble doubled, Kerns singled, and Sidney Wellman and Lyrac Bair walked to force in runs.
Chesapeake plays at Rock Hill on Friday.
