Many times, we drive or walk through downtown and do not take notice of the trees, flowers or other landscaping.

Later this month, science students at the Southern Campus of Ohio University in Ironton hope to start a trend to change that during the Earth Day on April 22.

Those students and the university will begin a partnership with the civic organization Ironton In Bloom to help improve the landscape of the city of Ironton.

This also affords students the ability to go through the process from planting the trees, caring for them and donating them to the organization to be used in various locations downtown.

This is a partnership that will be beneficial for all involved and takes steps in the right direction to help advance the work of IIB to make downtown Ironton have an enhanced aesthetic appeal.

While it may seem like something simple as you drive through downtown, these types of things can play a vital role in not only maintaining the city’s appearance, but also the ability to attract new businesses to the area.

We commend the efforts and work of those involved to help move Ironton forward, even if it is one tree at a time.
