Jerry Sites

Jerry Lee Sites, 71, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Ironton native was born in Huntington, West Virginia on Jan. 31, 1944, a son of the late John Sites and Estyle Hunt Smith. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Theresa A. “Teri” Bryant Sites, whom he married Jan. 9, 1993.

Mr. Sites was a graduate of Ironton High School and a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a former machinist for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad, retiring after 30 years of service with them. Jerry was also a member of the Woodland Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He loved to read the newspaper, watch westerns, loved gardening, music, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank Sites, Gary Sites, John Sites, and Ed Sites; a sister, Betty Sanders; a brother-in-law, Billie J. “BJ” Bryant Jr.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Mark Sites of Ironton; a daughter, Melissa (Randy) Sites Howard of Ironton; four grandchildren, Allison Jean-Marie Sites of Madison, Wisconsin, Mark Allen Sites II, Andrew Lee Sites, and Joshua Howard all of Ironton; a sister, Sue Spears of Ironton; two brothers, Doug Smith of Haverhill and Jimmy Smith of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; two sisters-in-law, Debbie (Gerald) Bennett and Angie (Larry) Crank all of Ironton; two brothers-in-law, Denny (Jana) Bryant of Coal Grove and Keith Bryant and his companion, Pam Stacy of Ironton; and several special nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton. Funeral services will be Thursday with visitation starting at noon and funeral service starting at 1 p.m. at Woodland Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with brother Dave Schug officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 8850. William Lynd

William Harlan “Bill” Lynd, 86, of Claremont, North Carolina, formerly of South Point, went to be with the Lord on March 8, 2015, at Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory, North Carolina. Bill was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Lawrence County to the late William Haskell “Has” and Melvina “Mellie” Lynd. Bill was a retired truck driver. He proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Joyce (O’Meara) Lynd, in August of 2014; a son, William Earl Lynd; one great-grandson, Baby Grace Carver; three sisters; and one brother. Bill is survived by four children, Greg Lynd (Kathy) of Barboursville, West Virginia; Tammy Varney (Tom) of Huntington, West Virginia, Teresa Runyon (Carlos) of South Point, and Jacky Rikard (Mark) of Claremont, North Carolina; two grandchildren that were raised in the home, Candy Goldie and Earl Lynd, both of Ashland, Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great aunt; a great-granddaughter; three sisters, Betty Woodruff and Garnet Woodruff, both of South Point, and Alice Bennett of Bennington, Vermont.

Jack Smith

Jack Smith, 73, of South Point, died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Florence. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, with Pastor D.L. Webb officiating. Burial will follow. Crown City Masonic Lodge will conduct graveside rites.
