PROCTORVILLE — Empowering women through fellowship and knowledge is the purpose behind the fifth annual Women’s Conference at Ohio University Southern-Proctorville Center.
This year’s conference on Friday, April 10, has workshops ranging from Internet safety to healthier lifestyles.
Dr. Jane Kurucz, a Huntington, West Virginia, surgeon, will offer information on the Paleo lifestyle.
“It is a holistic lifestyle and the importance of diet and eating more vegetables and protein,” Evelyn Capper, workshop spokesperson, said.
Kurucz spent much of her career as an oncology surgeon helping patients at the end of their life. She decided she wanted to offer preventive care.
A Marshall University professor will show the importance of cyber safety.
“It is what is happening in the news,” Capper said. “He will be talking about how to keep your account safe.”
Another speaker on the alternative lifestyle will be integrative nutritionist LeAnn Roe who will show the harmfulness of excessive sugar in the diet.
Tri-State journalist Dave Lavender is back by popular demand with an update on his list of day trips from the Tri-State.
“He was wildly popular and will talk about what’s happening, what’s new,” Capper said.
The conference starts with registration at 8:30 a.m. with sessions to follow. A luncheon will be at noon with a keynote speaker to be announced later. Last sessions end at 3:30 p.m.
