Farmers market gearing up

Temperatures may be below freezing, but farmers market organizers are already gearing up for their third season.
The regulars are scheduled to be back along with a new face, according to market manager Sam Heighton.
“There’s another baker coming,” Heighton said.
Just like last year there will be a special food featured each month thanks to Ironton In Bloom volunteers. That will always be on the second Saturday of each month.
“We are expecting to do more activities around the market this year,” he said.
Included in those events will be the bicycle safety day on May 30.
The market is always located at the pavilion on South Second Street, except when the Gus Macker tournament and the Rally on the River take over that location.
This summer the market will move to the back lot of Memorial Hall.
“Parking is a problem then,” he said. “We are hoping parking will be better.”
On the July 4th weekend, the market will be open for three days, July 2, 3 and 4th.
“People like to pick up stuff for the holiday,” Heighton said.
The market officially opens on Saturday, May 2.
