When it comes to a good-looking win, this one wasn’t Brad Pitt. But it wasn’t Marilyn Manson, either.

In a less-than-pretty performance, the Ironton Fighting Tigers beat the Logan Chieftains 55-47 Tuesday in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game.

“It certainly wasn’t a thing of beauty,” said Ironton coach Mark LaFon. “We didn’t do a very good job keeping them off the boards. This is the first time were had lapses in the game when we didn’t play with any intensity.”

The win was the ninth straight for Ironton, now 11-2 overall and leading the SEOAL at 8-0. Logan fell to 4-9 and 2-6.

Ironton opened with a 6-0 run before Logan’s Jeff Dietz converted a 3-point play at the 5:57 mark.

Ironton outscored Logan 11-4 the rest of the quarter to lead 17-7.

Zac Carter scored on a tradition 3-point play to begin the second quarter for Ironton and Patrick Angle made a foul shot at the six-minute mark and Ironton led 20-8.

Malcolm Morton drained a trifecta for a 23-8 Ironton lead before Mason Mays’ layup with 5:39 left in the half got Logan within 23-10. Carter’s two free throws gave Ironton its biggest lead of the half at 25-10 with 3:10 on the clock.

Logan got within 27-17 on a 3-point play but Angle at the 1:05 mark. A free throw by Josh Murphy gave Ironton a 28-17 lead at the break.

Layups by Mays and Dietz to begin the second half got Logan within 28-21 at the 6:30 mark.

But Ironton put together another scoring surge as Tim Kochendoerfer made a free throw, Carter had two layups and Morton added a layup for a 35-21 lead.

Ironton led 42-25 going into the fourth quarter, but a 3-point play by Angle with 4:52 left cut the deficit to 45-37.

“We kept getting a big lead, then we’d relax and they’d get right back in it. We were up and down the whole game,” said LaFon.

A layup by Trey Fletcher and a baseline jumper by Charles Stewart pushed Ironton’s lead to 51-37 with 2:50 to go.

Logan could get no closer than the final score when Jordan Rutter nailed a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left.

Carter led Ironton with 16 points. Kochendoerfer had 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Morton handed out six assists as Ironton had 14 as a team.

Mays led Logan with 12 points. Angle finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Dietz also had 11 points.
