While the Lawrence County Relay for Life is widely known for the candlelight walk and survivors’ lap, the organization and event is about much more than that.

One of those many things is that our residents are willing to give to and fight to make a difference for others.

Although the event is still months away, scheduled for mid-May at South Point High School, the organizers and teams are already making preparations to ensure as many people as possible plan to join to fight cancer.

Cancer is a debilitating disease that has likely touched the lives of most Americans in some form or fashion.

The only way to ultimately find a cure is to continue to work together and drive relentlessly for answers.

This is the basic model of the Relay for Life events here and throughout the country.

Events like these also give our community the ability to rejoice and honor cancer survivors while raising funds to continue research for those currently in the fight along with those who may face the disease in the future.

Each penny can and will make a difference in working to ensure we realize a victory in the fight against cancer.
