COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Hornets needed some extra time, so they used some extra size.

Coal Grove was led by 6-foot-8 center Austen Pleasants with a career-high 27 points as the Hornets beat the St. Joseph Flyers 73-60 in overtime on Tuesday.

Travis Carey had 12 points and Joe Akers added 10 for the Hornets (3-5).

The Flyers — playing without injured 6-6 center Chris Lewis — were led by Wulf Goheen with 19 points including 12 of 12 at the line. Kyle Williams scored 16 points and Troy Scott added 10 points before fouling out.

St. Joseph (3-7) took a 14-13 first quarter lead as Goheen scored 7 points including a trifecta. Carey had 4 points for Coal Grove.

The Flyers went up 29-22 at the half as Goheen converted all 10 free throw attempts in the second quarter. Pleasants kept the Hornets close with 5 points.

Coal Grove cut the deficit to 48-45 after three quarter by outscoring the Flyers 23-19 behind 7 points by Pleasants, 6 by Akers and 4 from Brandon Adkins.

Williams had the hot hand for the Flyers as he scored 12 points including a pair of 3-pointers.

Pleasants scored 9 points in the fourth quarter as Coal Grove tied the game at 59 and forced the overtime.

The Flyers went cold in the extra period as they only managed a 3-pointer by Clay Willis. The Hornets scored 14 points as they made 4 of 9 free throws and Pleasants had 4 more points.
