The cold weather may sound like a great time to stay close to the fire. But for those who venture out, it can be a time of learning, with a lot of fun besides.
On Friday will be the first in a series of natural beauty workshops offered by the Briggs Lawrence County Library.
“They will get a book with different recipes and will get to make a brown sugar scrub and a Kool-Aid lip gloss,” Lori Shafer, adult services librarian, said.
The recipe book will include instructions on how to make other beauty products such as shampoo out of natural ingredients and a body butter.
Friday’s class starts at 2 p.m. at the South Point branch followed by a 2 p.m. workshop on Jan. 16 at Proctorville, 6 p.m. Jan. 22 at Ironton and 2 p.m. Jan. 26 at Chesapeake.
Then in February the library will offer workshops on making personalized hot chocolate with ingredients provided by the library. The first workshop starts at 6 p.m. Feb. 19, at the Ironton branch; 2 p.m. Feb. 20 at Proctorville; 10:30 a.m. Feb. 21 at South Point and 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at Chesapeake.
Registration is required for all workshops.
Until Jan. 14, pet lovers can bring in photographs of their favorite furry friends dolled up for winter or the holiday. Photos can be sent via email or brought in to any of the branches. After Jan. 14, library patrons can vote on their favorite through the end of the month. The one with the most votes will receive a first place prize.
