ROBERT SMART

Robert E. Smart, 90 died Nov. 5, 2008 at National Park Medical Center. He was a resident of Hot Springs Village for 27 years where he moved in December 1981.
He was born in Ironton, Ohio, on Nov. 8, 1917, the son of Arthur and Virgie Smart. He attended Virginia Polytechnic College and was graduated from American Electronics Institute with a degree in electronic engineering. He was a retired vice president of administration and finance for the Memcor Division of E-Systems, Inc. in Huntington, Ind.
He was a member of the Kirk-In-The Pines Presbyterian Church, past president of the HSV-Men’s Golf Association, past treasurer & tournament director of the Garland County Seniors Golf Association and a charter member of the HSV Rotary Club and served that organization for six years as secretary and treasurer. He was a veteran of WWII serving four years in the U. S. Army including three years in the Southwest Pacific.
He was very active in civic affairs in Huntington, Ind., serving as past president of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Public Library Board of Directors, United Fund, LaFontaine Country Club and Wabash Valley Golf Association. He also served as a member of the Huntington Economic Development Commission, the Huntington Quasquecentennial Committee, the Indiana Governor’s Council on CETA and the Indiana Manufacture’s Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Hot Springs Village, one son, William, of Ahngnam, Thailand, one sister, Virginia Bryant, of Ironton; three grandchildren, Kelly Hollingsworth of Nashville, Tenn., Shannon Keller of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Erin Padavana of Castro Valley, Calif; eight great-grandchildren, Madison, Benjamin, Baylor and Cole Hollingsworth, Travis and Lucas Koeller, Bella and Angelo Padavana. He was predeceased by three sisters and one brother.
Services will be held at the Good Samaritan Chapel in Hot Springs Village at 10:15a.m. on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Kirk-in the Pines Presbyterian Church.
