Frank E. “Punk” Kerns, 79, of Pedro, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at his residence. The Lawrence County, Ohio native was born Jan. 25, 1929, the son of the late Charles and Goldie Aldridge Kerns. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Stamper Kerns, whom he married March 24, 1953.
Mr. Kerns attended Decatur Washington School and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a lab technician for 38 years with the Lone Star/Marquette Cement Plant and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald “Ronnie” E. Kerns; two sisters, Minnie Mae Arden and Vernon Mannon; and a brother, Dorman “Bud” Kerns.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Ricky Markel of Pedro
five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and four sisters, Frances “Pete” Besco of Pedro, Hazel Townsend of Willow Wood, Sharon “Chirp” Mays of Kitts Hill and Geretrude “Bean” Carmon of Pedro.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday in Puckett Cemetery with Rev. Fred Blagg officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to noon at Phillips Funeral Home.
