For more than a decade, the Ironton Area Kiwanis Club’s Breakfast with Santa has been tops among its fundraising events.

From 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday in the old AEP building on Third Street children got their pictures taken with Santa Claus and a $5 donation resulted in people eating sausage and what Kiwanis members call “Brian’s Famous Pancakes” prepared by treasurer Brian Fletcher.

“We’ve had 15 or so already and we have only been here for half an hour,” Emily Roush, Kiwanis member, said. “It’s about to get really busy.”

As people steadily arrived they were seated and served by Ironton High School Key Club members Cory Rawlins, Breanna Jones, Caroline Minsquero, Emily Arbaugh, Arianna Brown, Kylee Metzger, Andrew McCown and Drew Delawder who volunteered to work at the breakfast.

“It’s been a steady crowd,” Larry Anderson, Kiwanis past president, said. “People will start coming in more and more as the day goes on.”

Proceeds from Kiwanis fundraising activities help support its various other local projects and programs such as its scholarship fund, its monthly donation of diapers to the health department, hygiene kits for students and the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) student at Ironton St. Joe.

The Ironton Area Kiwanis Club meets at noon every Thursday at the Ironton City Center.
