One defendant involved in the alleged break-in of an elderly woman’s home will have his case heard by a grand jury.

Nathaniel DeLong, 36, of West View Drive, South Point, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Ironton Municipal Court this week. Rather, Delong waived the hearing and his case will be turned over to a grand jury, which will decide if there is enough evidence to indict the man on a second-degree count of burglary.

Co-defendant, Chris Destocki, 34, of 1606 Charlotte St., Ironton, also charged with burglary, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 4.

The two men were arrested on Nov. 11 after allegedly breaking into a 67-year-old woman’s home on County Road 7A in Ironton.

According to a sheriff’s report, the daughter of the victim caught the men in the home. Also according to the report, Destocki, who was acquainted with the victim, allegedly had $358 in his pockets, which belonged to the victim.

It was also later discovered that more than $1 million was missing from a safe in the home.
