The Ironton City Council at tonight’s meeting will hear the first reading of ordinance 14-42, which, if adopted, would close a portion of Market Street.
According to the ordinance, the abutting property owners to Market Street from Railroad Street to Corn Alley have petitioned for the partial closure.
“(City council) has determined there is good cause for such closure and such closure will not be detrimental to the general interest,” according to the ordinance, which further states, “Market Street is not needed for thoroughfare purposes.”
The first ordinance allowing for vacating part of Market Street was voided during council’s regular meeting on Oct. 23 when it was determined the action stated within the ordinance could be done through city action.
Also on the agenda is resolution 14-41, authorizing Mayor Rich Blankenship to apply for Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks funding.
ODNR administers financial assistance for public recreation purposes and it was announced this past June that the Ohio General Assembly allocated $8 million for fiscal years 2014 and 2015 for local park projects.
Other items on the agenda include the first reading of ordinance 14-31 authorizing and directing the execution of a collective bargaining agreement between the city and AFSCME Local 771 and ordinances 14-39 and 14-41, rescheduling the second November council meeting to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, because of Thanksgiving and the second December council meeting to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, because of Christmas.
