LEWIS MURNAHAN

Lewis Doyle Murnahan, 86, of Ironton, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Lawrence County, a son of the late William Monroe and Addie Neal Murnahan. He was retired from Allied Chemical Corp. in 1981 and also from Ironton Coke Corp. He was a life member and past commander from 1991-1992 of the VFW Post 8850; member of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., World War II veteran serving in the Army, 29th division in the European theater; former professional baseball player with the Chicago Cubs; and former Little League coach.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William Kenneth Murnahan, Delbert Murnahan and Joe Eddie Murnahan; and three sisters, Juanita Coffman, Lucille Fankel and Clara Rutledge.
Surviving are his wife, Mavis Witt Murnahan; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jami Holschuh of Chester, Va., and Joni and Bob Assar of Ashland, Ky.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Phillip and Janet Murnahan of Chester, Jerry and Mary Murnahan of Ironton and Jeff Murnahan of Ironton; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Joyce Markel and Lafern Boggs, both of Ironton, and Vera Jean Chimento of Springfield.
Graveside service will be at noon Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery, Section 11, with rites by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton. Pastor David Ritchie officiates. Visitation is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home.
