Backyard Dixie Jazz Stompers to perform at OUS

The Ironton Council for the Arts presents Huntington-based group The Backyard Dixie Jazz Stompers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Ohio University Southern Riffe Center Mains Rotunda.
They will perform music from the big band era and music in the style of New Orleans Dixieland jazz.
Formed in 1984 by trombonist Dale Jones, The Backyard Dixie Jazz Stompers band is made up of musicians from the Huntington and Charleston areas. In addition to Jones, other current band members include Randy Brown, banjo; Rick Rosenblum, trumpet; Vernon Varnum, reeds; Bob Brown, piano; Buddy Madden, tuba and Bill Gillespie, drums.
They have been featured in performances around the Tri-State and beyond including: The Rusty Nail in Kent; Huntington Museum of Art Hilltop Festival; Taste of River Cities; West Virginia Pumpkin Festival; Lawrence County Kentucky September Fest; Huntington’s Saint Patrick’s Day Festivities; Marshall University tailgate parties; aboard the West Virginia Belle; the Jewel City Sternwheeler and the P.A. Denny Riverboats; and at the Jomie Jazz Center at Marshall University.
Admission is $10. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by visiting the Ironton Council for the Arts website at www.southern.ohiou.edu, then clicking on the “events” tab and the Ironton Arts Council link. Students are admitted free with a valid ID.
