A fourth-generation business and an old face come-back to Ironton will be honored at this year’s annual awards dinner of the Greater Lawrence Chamber of Commerce.

Receiving the Small Business Advocate award will be Weber’s Florist, a full-service floral shop founded in 1903 by Joseph Weber; the Entrepreneur of the Year will be Frisch’s Big Boy that opened this summer after a more than 20-year hiatus from the city and Glockner South Point Ford the Business Person of the Year.

“The chamber board takes suggestions and then they approve the selection,” Shirley Dyer, chamber director, said.

The dinner will be on Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Mains Rotunda on Ohio University Southern’s Ironton campus.

This year there will not be a keynote speaker. However, Ironton musician Susan Taylor will perform.

There will also the annual installation of officers to the chamber.

“This provides a real good chance for fellowship,” Dr. Bill Dingus, executive director of the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation, said. “It highlights businesses. That is its intent. We highlight three or four businesses that work so hard and take a lot of risk in order to run a business. Small businesses help create commerce and a better way of life.”

A silent auction will be conducted by the Young Professionals as a fundraiser for its holiday Secret Santa coat and toy drive for children in need in the county. Among the items will be beer and wine basket, golf package, Christmas basket and a baking basket.

Tickets for the dinner are $75 for individuals and $600 for a table of eight. Reservations must be made by Monday by calling the chamber at 377-4550.

Reception begins at 6 p.m. with the dinner at 7 p.m. Catering will be by Bellefonte Country Club.
