Airport leases under review by prosecutor

New leases for hangar and tie-downs at the Lawrence County Airpark have been sent to the county prosecutor for review by the Lawrence County Commission.
Rental for a hangar will be $110 a month plus a $25 a month assessment fee while the rent for a tie-down will be $30 a month with the same assessment fee. If the lessee pays the annual amount, the hangar rent will be reduced by $120 and the tie-down by $36.
The rentals did not increase over the current lease. The change was the addition of the assessment fee.
At their regular Thursday meeting the commissioners forward the leases to County Prosecutor Brigham Anderson for his approval.
Also at the meeting Commission President Les Boggs announced that AT&T had erected a tower at State Route 141 and County Road 445.
“That will help with (cell phone coverage) on (State Route) 93,” Boggs said.
AT&T is also considering adding more towers in that area.
“Hopefully piece by piece (there will be coverage),” he said.
In other action the commission:
Accepted the resignation of Brian Soper, full-time EMT;
Awarded the bid for the second phase of the Chesapeake Streetscape from Fields Excavating for $39,536;
Accepted the weekly dog warden’s report where two dogs were destroyed, 16 adopted or went to rescue and one was redeemed by its owner.
