Community program adds more to roster

More community education classes have been added and are now being offered at Ohio University Southern’s Ironton campus.
The classes are open to the general public regardless of educational background and are self-supporting. The fees collected from classes cover the instructional, administrative and overhead cost of the program.
Registration and enrollment must be completed prior to the first class session. If the minimum enrollment for a class is not met, the class could be cancelled.
Classes offered at the Ironton campus are:
Football for Women 101 with instructor Brandon Roberts meets 6-7 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 4, 18 and 25 and Dec. 2, 9 and 16 at OUS.
This introductory course focuses on the basics of the game of football. This six weeks class will help “football widows” learn about and enjoy the popular sport. It will also aid parents, grandparents, and other family members in connecting with each other in a way that had previously been nearly impossible because of lack of knowledge.
Course enrollment minimum is five, maximum is 20 and cost is $42.
Getting to Know Windows 8 with instructor Lorna Besco meets 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, and Thursday, Nov. 6 in Dingus 220.
Get to know the world of Microsoft Windows 8 and it’s a robust, powerful operating system that gives you an efficient way to manage all the apps, programs, files and folders you use regularly. In this course, learn the basics to make the most of this operating system for both work and fun.
Students will start by exploring how to move around within Windows 8 with the new Start screen, Charms bar and desktop. Find out how to manage apps and programs on the Start screen and how to customize the Start screen and desktop areas.
Finding files and folders on Windows 8 system is easy and students will learn how, whether files are stored on a hard drive or on an external drive. Learn how to create basic text documents using WordPad and discover how to organize, manage and edit photos in Windows 8. Finally gain an understanding of how to protect files, update Windows 8 and access the Internet with Windows 8’s new Internet Explorer browser.

Introduction to Microsoft Word 2013 with instructor Lorna Besco meets 6:30-8:30 p.m., Nov. 18, 20 and 25 in Dingus 220.
In this course students will learn how to add, move through and edit text; move words from one part of your document to another; change the size or appearance of text; change margins and tab settings; automatically center, right align, justify, and indent text; run the grammar and spelling checker; use the thesaurus; and save, retrieve, copy, organize and print documents. By the time students are finished with this course, you’ll be able to use Word confidently at home or on the job.

Editing or finishing photographs has become a popular part of photography. In this course, learn to add text and graphics to digital photo, change colors, correct blemishes and create collages.

Social Media for Beginners with instructor Lorna Besco meets 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 in Dingus 220.
Social media dominates the Web. More than a billion people actively use social media every day. In this course you will learn how to use social media. This course is for anyone looking for tips, tricks or to re-learn why they started using social media in the first place.
Course enrollment minimum is five and maximum is 20. Course cost $14.
